Obituary for Heinz Moes

Hank Moes of New Portland died on September 15 in Farmington. He was 90 years old. Hank was born in Frankfurt am Main, Germany on November 1, 1923 and immigrated with his family to the United States in 1929. They settled in East Orange, New Jersey where he attended local schools. After graduating from High School he served in the army as a weather observer in India during World War II. When the war was over, he attended NIT in Newark, New Jersey where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering, and went on to NYU to get a masters degree. He worked for 30 years at E.R. Squibb & Sons (Now Bristol-Myers Squibb). He was active in both the ISPE and American Chemical Society. After retiring, he set up a consulting company, Chemoes, and worked for Arion Water in Curver, MA, among others. In 1989 the family moved to New Portland and Hank was able to indulge in his love of the woods. He was a quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor who enjoyed travelling, mountain climbing, photography, and camping with his family. He also played a mean game of tennis and had a taste for German music and a mug of good German beer. He is survived by his wife Joan, and sons; Geoffrey of Arlington, VA; Timothy and Wife Roueida Ghadban of Providence, UT; Christopher of Concord, VT; and daughter, Jennifer and Husband Bryan McNaney of Farmington; and Granddaughter Maya of Providence, UT.
