LIVERMORE-Millicent Hart Wilkins Thyng, 93, of Livermore died Saturday afternoon, May 29, 2011 at her farm in Livermore. She was born on Aug. 3, 1917, at her home in Livermore Falls, a daughter of Harley M. and Euphemia (Stuart) Wilkins. After her mother’s passing in 1919, she was raised by her Aunt Lena Wilkins. Millicent attended local schools, graduating as Valedictorian of her 1936 class at Livermore Falls High School. She worked in Oakland in an insurance company and then Diamond Match Company. She later trained and worked in Boston at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital as an X-Ray technician and later in Dr. Herminson’s office as an office manager. During WWII she also worked as an Air Raid Warden. In 1947 her daughter, Bonnie (Wilkins) Perkins was born and in 1949 they moved from Massachusetts to the family farm in Livermore Falls to take care of Millicent’s terminally ill father. In 1957 she married, G. Howard Thyng and moved to his family’s dairy farm in Livermore Center. She was a member of the Moose Hill Baptist Church, since she was a teenager, like generations of her family before her, the New Norland Grange, Androscoggin Pomona Grange, the Maine State Grange, and the Livermore Center Neighborhood Club. She was a retired member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and was one of the oldest living technicians in the United States. She was a participant in a national study out of the University of Minnesota to look at health risks associated with low-dose radiation exposure in the workplace. Millicent enjoyed working in her gardens and watching the wildlife in the area. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, hard work, inner strength, and always remembering others on special occasions or when they were facing life's challenges. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Wilkins) Perkins of Livermore; five step-children and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard in 1998; her son-in-law, Lew Perkins in 2007. Memorial graveside services will be held, 10AM, Sat., June 4, 2011 at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Rd., Rte. 133, Jay. Interment will be at the Intervale Cemetery of Livermore on Maple Lane, in Livermore.
