Obituary for Mabel Leonard

Auburn, Maine – Mabel Ann Curtin Leonard, 82, of Adamstown Twp, formerly of East Hartford, CT, died early Monday morning, May 19, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice in Auburn, Maine, after a long illness. She was born in East Hartford, CT, Jan. 11, 1932, the youngest daughter of William and Gladys Curtin. She received her education in local schools and graduated from East Hartford High School in 1949. On Oct. 18, 1952, she married Donald R. Leonard at St. Rose Church. Mr. Leonard died Oct. 26, 1998. Mrs. Leonard worked for many years as a secretary to the Director of Libraries in East Hartford. She enjoyed playing softball and bowling in her younger years, playing cards with her sisters, going to Mohegan Sun, and simply enjoyed life. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her, and the times spent with her family were the happiest times of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Grant, and her husband, Colin, of Adamstown Twp; two grandsons, David and Michael Grant, both of MA; a sister, Kathleen Curtin Cummiskey of East Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her beloved siblings Frances, William, Gladys, Robert, Jane and Edward. A Memorial Mass will be held at the Our Lady of Peace Church, at 370 May Rd East Hartford, CT 06118, on Wednesday, May 28th, at 10:30 AM. While flowers are welcome, the family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts to the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, ME 04210. Condolences and tributes may be shared with her family on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com. Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, provided cremation services.
