Obituary for Linda Osgood

NEW PORTLAND – Linda Jean Osgood, 64, of New Portland, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday evening June 29, 2014, She was born Sept. 14, 1949, in Concord, NH, a daughter of Wallace Richardson and Madelene Vivian (Huff) Scribner, Jr. She was a 1967 graduate of Strong High School and attended Gray’s Secretarial School in southern Maine. She was a legal secretary for a number of years for Jonathan Luce before working in the Personnel Office of International Paper Company. She later was employed as a secretary in the Technical Office of IP. She and her husband followed their dream of moving to Alaska and returned last winter to Maine after enjoying 18 years in Sutton, Alaska. For three years, she was employed by the State of Alaska as a summertime campground host for the Alaskan Conservation Corps. (ACC). Nicknamed “Miss Wilderness”, she was most at ease casually dressed, wearing her flip flops, and enjoying the gift of the great outdoors. She enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, photography and fishing. She is survived by her husband (best friend) David Osgood of New Portland; two sons: Matthew Luce and his wife, Caroline of New Vineyard and Michael Luce and his wife, Heidi of Jay; a step-son, Mark Osgood of Jay; a step-daughter, Kristin Drottar of Windham; two brothers: Jay Scribner and his wife, Margie of Kingfield and Jerry Scribner and his wife, Nicole of Belgrade; “Grammie Linda” is also survived by five grandchildren: Isabella Luce, Jonathan Luce, MacKenzie Osgood, Kylie Drottar and Luke Drottar. She was predeceased by a step-son, Micah Osgood in 2001. OSGOOD – died, at NewPortland, 6/29/2014, Linda Jean Osgood, 64 of New Portland. A Life Celebration Service will be held Thursday evening, July 3, 2014 at 6 PM from the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton. Family and friends are encouraged to wear Linda’s favorite footwear, flipflops. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Wilton Fish and Game PO Box 339 Wilton, Maine 04294 for educational programs to encourage youngsters to develop a love for the sport of fishing.
