FARMINGTON—Lillian Doris Benton, 91, of Canton, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Doris was born on July 28, 1923 in Columbus, Georgia, a daughter of Amos and Elizabeth (Gibson) Nelson. She spent her younger years as a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and fishing. Doris moved to Maine over 25 years ago in order to be closer with her family. She eventually became a resident of The Victorian Villa where she made her home for the past 14 years. Doris was a true southern bell who had an outgoing personality with a sweet disposition. She will certainly be missed. Doris is survived by her children, Mary Ruth Sanders, Amos T. May, and Barbara Jean Busby; a daughter-in-law, Pat Sanders of Kingfield; 9 grandchilden; several great grandchildren; a few great great grandchildren; and the staff and her friends at The Victorian Villa, who were considered her extended family. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elwood T. May; a son, James Sanders; and brothers, Amos “AC” Nelson and Jack Nelson. A graveside memorial service will be held at Sunnyside Cemetery, Rte. 27 in Kingfield on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Tom Dubois officiating.
