Obituary for Lester Jr.

Rumford – Lester N. Averill, Jr., 82, of Averill Hill Road, Dixfield, died late Thursday evening at Rumford Community Hospital with his son’s at his side. He was born in Dixfield, Feb. 11, 1932, a son of Lester N. and Rachel (Hiltz) Averill, Sr. and received his education in Dixfield schools graduating in 1950. On Sept. 11, 1951, he married Kathryn Tyler. She died July 3, 2003. They made their home in the West Palm Beach area in Florida where he worked as an auto mechanic and service advisor at a local Pontiac dealer. They returned to Maine in 1974 where he owned and operated Averill’s Auto Salvage and worked as a mechanic. Mr. Averill was a hard working man, enjoying his farm and cutting wood. He is survived by his two sons, Lester N. Averill, III of Philadelphia, PA and David Averill of Rochester, NH; 3 grandchildren, Morey Averill of Philadelphia, PA, Benjamin Averill of Portland, and Jacob Averill of Rochester, NH; a brother, Thomas “Lynn” Averill of Dixfield; several nieces an nephews; He was predeceased by sisters, Betty and Claudia; and a brother, George. Condolences and tributes may be shared with the family at www.wilesrc.com. Averill – died at Rumford, Thursday, June 12, 2014, Lester N. Averill, Jr., 82, of Dixfield. Public graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Dixfield. The family suggests that those who desire consider memorial gifts in Mr. Averill’s memory to the American Cancer Society, Maine Affiliate, Inc., One Maine Street, Topsham, ME 04086-1240. Cremation and memorial services are being cared for and provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center, Dixfield.
