Obituary for Lance ManyCrows

WEST FARMINGTON – Lance Many Crows was a Native American of Chiricahua Apache descent; private and proud. He was born in Florida and was influenced greatly by his maternal grandmother while living with her in New Mexico. Lance traveled extensively throughout the world, educating himself on many of the worlds religions and cultures. Lance most loved being here in the Western Mountains of Maine in his remodeled school busses which he made into motor homes and art studios. He attended art shows and Pow Wows all over the country, spending his last years of life in the East. His works of art portray native life and history from past to present and have been used and will continue to be used for generations to celebrate births, weddings, funerals and important ceremonies and family events. His drums and rattels used in Native American ceremony made him proud. Other items sought of Lances talent include cradleboards, painted hides, skulls, turtle shell bags and rattle pipes, medicine bags, jewelry and scrimshaw. Lance was a generous man and when he had finances, he freely gave to those in need. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. One of Lances’ favorite quotes by Christina Barnes was “when you create something and give it to someone, a part of you lives forever.” MANY CROWS – died, at West Farmington, 8/5/2011, Lance Many Crows, of West Farmington. Cremation arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine 04938.
