Obituary for L. Averill

LEWISTON — L. Thomas Averill, 76, a lifelong resident of Dixfield and the loving husband of Evelyn Averill, died Saturday morning, Aug. 30, at Central Maine Medical Center. The youngest of five, Tom was born on Feb. 23, 1938, a son of Lester and Rachel (Hiltz) Averill Sr. He attended Dixfield schools and married Evelyn (Lemay) on Oct. 25, 1958; together, they raised three children and shared 53 years of marriage. Throughout his life, Tom was involved in various occupations, including working in the woods and driving trucks and ambulances, and even worked in Florida for a brief period of time. Tom took pride in his business and owned and operated his own automotive repair shop, Tom’s General Repair, in Dixfield for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the sportsmen’s and snowmobile clubs in Dixfield. Tom was a very generous, quiet and kind man, but above all, Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all. Tom is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Mexico; sons, Glen Averill of New Sharon and Greg Averill and his wife, Tammy, of Dixfield; daughter, Beth Lee, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Jenny, Seth, Amanda, Samantha, Macklyn and Bailey; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother- and sister-in-law, Joe and Pauline Arsenault of Millinocket; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his folks and siblings, George and Lester Averill, Betty Curtis and Claudia Emery. The family would especially like to thank Elsmore Clinic and the staff at CMMC for taking such excellent care of Tom. AVERILL — L. Thomas, 76, of Dixfield, died Saturday, Aug. 30. A celebration of his life will be held at his family’s convenience, per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in his memory to the Cardiac Rehab Unit, Rumford Hospital, 420 Franklin St., 2nd Floor, Rumford, ME 04276.
