Farmington – Harriet Noyes Leighton, 93, formerly of Fairbanks Ave., Dixfield, died early Saturday evening at The Sandy River Center for Healthcare. She was born in Belgrade Depot, May 5, 1917, a daughter of Dana and Neleta (Tibbets) Noyes and received her education in Dixfield schools. On August 7, 1946, she married William “Bill” Leighton, Sr. in West Peru. He died June 29, 1982. She was employed for a time at Holman’s Mill and later worked as a nurse’s aide at the Dixfield Nursing Home. Mrs. Leighton was known for her braided and hooked rugs as well as her collection of dolls and doll clothing. She was a former member of the Dixfield Congregational Church and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary’s. She is survived by her son, William “Bucky” Leighton, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Temple; her daughter, Jane Wardwell and her husband, Clyde of Dixfield; a sister, Louise Wentzell of Florida and Rumford; 3 grandchildren, Shelly Leighton of NC, Stephanie Dube and her husband, Ray of Lewiston, and Luke Leighton of CO: 5 great grandchildren, Michaela, Sam, and Calvin Leighton, Makala Kelly, and Bella Dube; several nieces and nephews; She was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Carlton; a sister, Mona Putnam, three brothers, Earl, Carroll “Kicker”, and Lee Noyes; Condolences and tributes may be shared on her wall at www.wilesrc.com. Leighton – died at Farmington, Saturday, April 2, 2011, Harriet Noyes Leighton, 93, formerly of Dixfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld Street, Dixfield. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the center, Thursday from 4-6p.m. Interment will be Tuesday, July 5 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Dixfield. The family asks that those who desire make memorial contributions in Mrs. Leighton’s memory to the Dixfield Historical Society, PO Box 517, Dixfield, ME 04224.
