NORRIDGEWOCK-Ernest C. McKenney, 90, of Norridgewock, died unexpectedly, Saturday, August 20, 2011 in Norridgewock. He was born on May 5, 1921, in Madison, a son of, Wallace P. and Sarah (Jackson) McKenney. He attended schools in Norridgewock and Madison, graduating from Madison. A WWII Army veteran, Ernest served as a tank driver in Europe under General Patten. In October of 1958 he married, Laura Davis. She died on Dec. 1, 1999. Mr. McKenney worked as a finish carpenter for the majority of his life for various local contractors. The vast majority of those years were for Sherwood McKenney. After his retirement, he continued to work for himself. In his retirement he maintained his love of working with wood by creating very intricate wooden model trucks and musical instruments. He also worked for a few years with a dear friend, Mauno Kankainen building canoes. Another hobby for Ernest was collecting coins. He was a former member of VFW posts in Norridgewock and Kingfield. He is survived by his children, Wallace McKenney of Coral Springs, FL, Mildred Daggett of Norridgewock and Russell Roper of Springfield, MA; a sister, Viola Lepenven of MD; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura; siblings, Tracey and Ruth; a grandson. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Funeral Home, Cremation Service & Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington.
