WEST PARIS-Edward F. Daley, 88, of Dixfield, died early Tuesday morning, Apr. 29, 2014 at the Ledgeview Nursing Home in West Paris. He was born on June 28, 1925, in Portland. Alward and Ruth Daley raised him from the age of three in the Dixfield area. He attended local schools and graduated from Dixfield High School in 1944. Ed enlisted in the Army immediately after graduation and served during WWII from 1944 to 46, predominately in Munich Germany during the European Theater. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant (Tech-4). On Apr. 29, 1949, he married, Kathleen I. “Katie” Libby in Farmington. They made their home in Dixfield, in a house he built himself, as he worked for over 35 years at the former Oxford Paper Company as a millwright and machinist. Ed had a love for music and enjoyed playing various instruments, namely the guitar. He enjoyed a good walk in the woods and particularly cutting wood on his various woodlots. At the center of his life and truly his greatest pleasure was time spent with his family. He always paid particular attention and took great measures to make sure they were safe, happy and healthy. He is survived by his wife, Katie of Dixfield; nine children, Shirley Cornell and her husband, Robert of Hamilton, NY, Gerald Daley and his wife, Gayle of Dixfield, Patrick B. Daley of Sabattus, Darlene Ryder and her husband, Gary of Lisbon, Edward Daley and his wife, Jeannine of Bowdoin, Lillian Belanger and her husband, Rick of Lewiston, Pastor Robert Daley and his wife, Terrie of Panama City, FL, Rev. Thomas Daley and his wife, Linda of Lewiston, and John Daley of Dixfield; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Emily Houghton of Dixfield, Gerard Daley and his wife, Vaughn of Dixfield, and Alwin Daley and his wife, Jeannie of Alexander. Also survived by special neice Cathy Marsden of Havervill, Ma. He was predeceased by siblings, Marion Hebert, Alice Kinney, John Daley, and Robert Daley. Services will be private. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta. Gifts may be given in his memory to the First Baptist Church of Mexico, 20 Roxbury Rd., Mexico, ME 04257 are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 42 Weld St., Dixfield.
