Jacksonville, FL - Douglas J. Bowen, 52, died peacefully on June 26, 2011 at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on September 14, 1958 in Littleton, New Hampshire. The son of John A. Bowen and Reta M. Bowen. He graduated from Mt. Blue High School in 1976. He served in the United States Navy for 3 terms, 12 years, and then joined the Merchant Marines for 9 years. He resided in Jacksonville Florida 1990-2011. He loved the sea and was an avid traveler. He will be remembered for his zest for life and his immense generosity, willing to give anything for the less fortunate. He traveled the world and always shared his experiences. He was proud of his service to our country as well as deep sense of family. He had a huge heart and a contagious, wide smile. Doug is survived by his mother Reta M. Bowen, three brothers and step sister. Eric “Rick” J. Bowen, Timothy J. Bowen, John “Jack” A. Bowen Jr. and Barbara “Barbie” Bowen, and his long time friend Denny Knight and many other friends. Doug, you will never be forgotten. A private graveside service will be held at Wilton Cemetery over looking Wilson Lake at 11 am on 7/30/11. A separate private memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date and time to be determined. Service arrangements are being cared for by the Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington. Those wishing may share their memories and condolences on Doug’s memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
