FARMINGTON-Christine J. “Gram” Staples, 90, of Jay, died peacefully in her sleep on Sat., Apr. 9, 2011 at the Sandy River Center for Healthcare in Farmington, where she had been a resident for the past year. She was born on Mar. 8, 1921, in Jay, a daughter of, Charles and Hazel (Smith) James. She attended local schools, graduating from Jay High School in 1938. On June 1, 1940, she married, Carlton E. Staples in Jay, where they made their home on Route 133. She worked several years at Livermore Falls Shoe, retiring in 1970. It was then she went to work as a homemaker to her beloved family and grandchildren. She enjoyed vegetable and especially flower gardening, cooking, sewing and quilting. Family however was truly at the center of her life and there was no greater time for her than the time she was able to spend with them. She was also a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Livermore Falls. Christine is survived by her son, Rodney Staples of Livermore Falls; grandchildren, Michael Staples of Jay and Kelley Lisherness and her husband, Scott of Industry; great grandchildren, Jacob Staples Ouellette of Livermore Falls, Joshua Merrick of Industry and Michael Staples of Jay; a sister, Helen Hall and her husband, Robert of Jay; a brother, David James and his wife, Faye of NH; a special niece, Donna Boone of Jay; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton on Oct. 1, 1987; siblings, Richard, Kenneth, John and Merton James; Esther Pond, Myrtle Kenney, Ruth Staples and Pearl Losey. Christine’s family wishes to extend a thank you to all of the staff of Sandy River for their loving care during the year she was a resident there. A celebration of her life will be celebrated, 6PM, Wed., Apr. 13, 2011 at the Wiles Remembrance Center , 308 Franklin Rd., Jay. Interment will be later in the spring at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
