Obituary for Ronald Morris

East Livermore - Ronald N. Morris, 79, of Livermore, passed away in his home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, following a brief illness. He was born May 10, 1944 in Leeds, Maine, a son of Nelson and Clara (Venoit) Morris.

In Ron’s early years he married the love of his life, Antoinette “Toni” LaPlante of Livermore Falls, and they quickly started their family. For the next several years he worked for the United States Postal Service, Carleton Wollen Mills, Livermore Shoe, and Bass Shoe as a hand sewer before moving to New Hampshire for a short time where he was a security guard sergeant at Pinkertons in White River Junction, VT. In 1980 the pair decided to move back to their home state of Maine and made Livermore their home where they continued to raise their children. He worked as a custodian for SAD 36 and then for the Town of Livermore Falls. He also attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Waterville and became a part time police officer for the town of Livermore Falls; something he took great pride in.

He enjoyed camping, working in his yard, puttering in his garage, and was always fixing something. He was a self-taught carpenter and handyman and took on the job of building his own house in East Livermore in 1990.

Ron’s retirement from the Town of Livermore Falls in 2010 after 20 years lasted only 8 months; just long enough for him to build a garage before feeling the pull to get back to work and be around the people in his community. In 2011 he began working for Finley Funeral Home in Livermore Falls until his illness in October 2023. He enjoyed seeing everyone he knew and meeting new people which was evident when he shared his infectious smile and laugh. His “retirement” brought him so much joy.

Ronald is survived by his special friend and companion, Judy Pottle of Livermore, who took great care of him until his passing; children, Steven Richards and his wife Barbara of Livermore, Jeffrey Morris and his partner Terri Royce of Newport, NH, Susan Richards and her partner Paul Moore of Jay, Lisa Morris of Auburn, and Ronny Morris of Fayette; sisters, Sonia Plourde, Rhonda Robinson, Beckie Lavoie, Edna Perry, and Norma Lavasseur; a brother, Merton “Chub” Morris; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Rhonda Morris; a grandchild, Austin James Waterbury; brothers, Monte “Jr” Wing, Richard “Dickie” Wing Sr., Robert Morris, and Raymond Morris; and a sister, Laura Morris.

Dad, you fought like a lion and had the heart of a lamb. You are, and will be, forever missed by all that had the blessing to know you.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Birchland Cemetery, Route 17 in North Jay. Memories may be shared in Ronald's Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Honored to be caring for the family of Ronald N. Morris is Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington.
