Obituary for Robert Hall

FARMINGTON – Robert E. Hall, 89 of Jay, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born on March 14, 1934, the son of the late Percy and Marjorie (Ireland) Hall.

Bob grew up in Freeport and joined the Army National Guard serving as a heavy weapons infantryman, expert gunner, and expert marksman from 1953 to 1959. He married Helen James on May 21, 1954, and moved to Jay. He was always a very hard worker. He worked at Freeport Shoe, Farmington Shoe, and as a carpenter at Decoster Egg Farms. From 1977 to 1999 he worked at International Paper. When he wasn’t working his day job, he would pick up side jobs to help support his family.

He enjoyed spending time at camp on Sand Pond and taking boat rides and river trips down the Kennebec River. Bob had many hobbies which included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, woodworking, and making crafts and lawn ornaments. He also enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with family and friends, putting puzzles together, attending any events his grandchildren were involved in, and visiting with his brother-in-law, Frank.

He also loved his John Deere tractor. He would use it at the house whether he was snow blowing or just cruising around. Robert was Mr. Fix It and was always trying to fix things. He would take things that most people would throw away and spend hours on them making them good as new. He always loved puttering around the house, as there was always something to do.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of 69 years and their sons, Stephen Hall and wife Robin and Robert “Scott” Hall and wife Wendy; a special grandson, Stephen Hall and companion Sue; a daughter-in-law, Julie Becker and husband Chris;
grandchildren Katie, Scottie, Kelly Jo, Bruce Jr. (BJ), Eric, Shawn, Scott and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Bruce E. Hall; a grandson, Brandon Hall; a brother, Bud Hall; sisters, Louise Bennett and Laura “Babe” Clark.

The family would like to give special thanks to Emma from Androscoggin Home Health and Cheryl Remick, Kim Cook, & Brandy Lesperance for their wonderful care while Bob was at home.

Family and friends are invited to Robert's visitation on Saturday, January 13th, 2024, from 12PM until the time of the service at 1PM at Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Jay, ME 04239. Interment will take place in the Spring at Pleasant View Cemetery, Livermore Falls.
