Obituary for Philip Brooks

FARMINGTON -It is with great sadness that the family of Philip ‘Phil’ Edward Brooks, recently of Farmington, announce his sudden death on April 14, 2023 at the age of 76.

Born December 5, 1946 in Skowhegan, Maine to the late Harvey Brooks and Dorothy Irene (Lindsay) Quimby Brooks, Philip is also predeceased by his sister, Roberta ‘Bert’ (Quimby) Dickinson and brother-in-law, Laurel (Sonny) Dickinson Jr., sister, Marilyn ‘Mal’ (Quimby) Spaulding, brother-in-law, Robert ‘Bob’ Blackwell and nephew, Scott Spaulding.
Philip never married or had any children of his own, although he loved, and was loved by many. He is survived by a loving family including his brother, Alston ‘Sonny’ Quimby Jr. and wife, Wanda Quimby, of Madison; sister Mildred ‘Millie’ (Quimby) Blackwell of Ohio; brother-in-law, Loyal Spaulding of Augusta; and a half-sister, Wanda (Quimby) Gurney of Skowhegan; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews who will miss ‘Uncle Phil’ greatly. His passing has left a large teddy-bear shaped hole in the heart of our lives.

Although Philip never made national headlines or invented the next great cure for cancer, he lived a full and happy life. Graduating from Madison High School in 1966, Phil joined the U.S. Air Force shortly afterward serving actively from July 1966 to July 1970 as a Jet Aircraft Mechanic. Among the awards and medals he received were the
National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Phil worked in various Woolen Mills in Maine and then at the former Keyes Fibre (now Huhtamaki) in Waterville.

In his free time Phil enjoyed fishing, playing his handheld games and always enjoyed a good game of BINGO. Most especially, he loved any time he could spend with his family.

The family wishes to thank David Spaulding, Philip’s nephew, for being there and taking such good care of him for the last few years. He has been a great friend and loving nephew. To the staff of Woodlands Senior Living in Farmington, many thanks for all your care of our beloved brother and uncle.

Family and Friends are invited to share remembrances in Phil's Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Cremation Care and arrangements are under the direction of Wiles Remembrance Center - Farmington.
