Obituary for Mary Drach

TEMPLE -- Mary Ann Drach, long-time resident of Temple, Maine, died in the early morning hours of Sunday July 6, 2014, at the Sandy River Center for Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Farmington, Maine, of complcations of vascular disease. She was the daughter of L. Burton Drach and Emily (Reif) Drach of Cincinnati, Ohio and Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She served as the choir director of the First Congregational Church (Old South) in Farmington, for more than 25 years and taught voice and piano privately. Her novels and stories were widely circulated in science fiction and media fan magazines. She sang professionally with early music groups and was active in musical theater in Farmington and in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she studied at the University of Michigan. She was a graduate of Hanover College in Indiana. She was predeceased by her parents and by her stepmother, Irma Drach. She is survived by a step-sister, Joyce (Mrs. Jack) Drake in Ohio; a nephew, Randy Hibberd; a God-daughter, Christina (Mrs. Adam) Bobrow and dear friends Regina Longyear ad Kathleen Lynch. Public memorial services will be held at Old South Congregational Church, Main St., Farmington, later in the summer, date and time to be announced.
