Obituary for Lois Gaudet (Scott)

Lois S. Gaudet of Nashua N.H. formerly of Dixfield, Passed away Sat. June 5th, 2021, at Community Hospice in Merrimac, N.H.
Lois was born in Sumter, S.C. on March 13, 1934. The middle child of five to Don (Watts) Scott and Ledbetter Ebenezer Scott Sr. She was educated and graduated from Sumter High School in 1953. After high school she met the love of her life, Airman Edgar Gaudet Jr., who was on leave from the local base. She married Edgar on July 4th, 1954, at the chapel on Shaw Air Force Base. In 1956 they returned to Edgar’s home state of Maine to raise the twin girls born on base, Sandra and Wanda, and had three more children, R. Wayne, Paul, and Cheryl. They were married for 38 years when Edgar passed away in 1992.
After moving to Maine, Lois worked as a telephone operator, which as anyone who knew her would agree, was the perfect job for her with her gift of gab. She loved to talk to anyone and was frequently asked about her southern accent. When the telephone went dial and her gifts were no longer needed there, she took classes and started what would become her life’s work, as a CNA. She used that same gift of gab, plus an abundance of compassion to care for her patients, for the next 25 plus years, at Rumford Community Hospital. She finished her career as a private duty nurse in the Nashua area, never fully retiring until age 75.
Having been raised at a time when food and clothes were not as abundant as today, she also developed many skills to stretch the family budget. In addition to her own garden, many local farmers would donate any extra crops to her, knowing a portion would be returned canned and ready for winter storage. She was also very good with a sewing machine, but the thing she was most amazing at was Knitting, making hats, mittens, and sweaters with the most intricate designs that are still worn today by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lois wore many hats but the things she was most proud of was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters: Wanda Gaudet of Nashua, N.H., Cheryl Corriea and her husband Mike Corriea of Tomball, Texas. Two Sons: R. Wayne Gaudet and his wife Julie of Merideth, N.H., Paul Gaudet and his wife Susie of Dixfield, ME. Five Grandchildren: Kate Barteaux and her husband Steve, Keith Gaudet, Krista Gaudet, Allison Corriea, Kaitlyn Corriea. Two great grandsons: Reed Barteaux, Allden Gaudet. And one sister: Jean Larson of Tucson, A.Z.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Virginia Lowder, and her brothers L.E. (Scotty) Scott Jr., and Alfred Scott.
A funeral service will be held at the Dixfield Congregational Church on Friday June 11, 2021 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Dixfield along with a reception at the generational family home, 1 Highland Ave. in Dixfield.
