Obituary for Larry McLain

Larry Bruce McLain (OG), age 59, of Rumford, passed away on June 3, 2021, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his fiancée of eleven years and his two sons.

He was born in Berlin, NH, on September 11, 1961. Larry grew up surrounded by many brothers and sisters. Larry relocated to the Rumford, Maine area in his twenties along with his family that included his three boys, Dustin, Buddy, and Cote.

Larry was a hard worker. He was employed as a laborer for most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with his dog Whiskey and fiancée Terry in his spare time. In addition, he enjoyed antiquing and spending time with his family and close friends.

He was a passionate patriot and proud Gold Star Family member, participating in many events around the state like 'Run for the Fallen' and 'The Summit Project.' In addition, he is responsible for the flagpole located in Demerritt Cemetery in Peru, Maine, a bridge dedication to his son Buddy McLain in Peru, Maine, and a scholarship fund for Mountain Valley Highschool in Rumford, Maine.

He is survived by two sons, Dustin McLain and his fiancée Sara Roberts of Rumford, Cote McLain and his wife Stephanie Harmon of Farmington, his fiancée Terry Andrews of Rumford, his grandchildren Owen and Abel, his siblings, and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his son Buddy McLain, his father Wendall Wheeler, and mother Theo Mortensen, and brother Billy McLain.

The family will be having a private graveside service followed by an open celebration of life potluck on Friday, June 11th at 2 pm at the Rumford Eagles Lodge.
