Obituary for Jane Doane
Mercer - Jane Doane, 78, of Mercer, passed away unexpectedly at her home, Thursday, March 9, 2023.
She was born Jan. 9, 1945 in Port Chester, NY, When she was 14 years old, her family moved to Chatham on Cape Cod where she met and married the love of her life, Chatham native, Richard Doane. Together they had four children and were married until the passing of Richard in 2019.
Through the years she worked at many jobs including housekeeping for Shirley Booth (TV's Hazel) and as a real estate agent on Cape Cod. Here in Maine she worked as a cook for Bear Spring Camps and over twenty years, worked bookkeeping for several estate and livestock auctions around Maine. She enjoyed making new friends at many music jams in the area and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in New Sharon. She volunteered her time with church functions at bake sales and public dinners and volunteered for girl scouts and cub scouts for many years.
She leaves behind her four children, Marianne Austin and her husband, Dave of Norridgewock, son, Richard and his longtime partner, Linda, son, David, and son, Kenneth and his wife, Heather all of Mercer; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard; brothers, John and William; and sister, Florence.
