Obituary for James Stone

FARMINGTON – James Arthur Stone, 82, of Rangeley, passed away at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, Monday, November 13, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Rumford on July 22, 1941, to Earl and Bella (Melason) Stone.

He attended school in Mexico and upon graduation from Mexico High School in 1959, James enlisted in the Air Force where he served from 1960 to 1964. He married the love of his life, Caroline Alicia Warmack, July 22, 1961, and they settled in the Rumford area after his service in the Air Force until 1975.

He worked in the Rumford Paper Mill from 1964 to 1968 before starting his career with the telephone companies, Bell South and Consolidated Communications, until 1999.

He and his wife moved to Rangeley in 1975 and briefly moved back to Rumford from 1980 to 1987 before ultimately settling in Rangeley. He served on the Rangeley Board of Selectmen for twenty years.

James was an avid gun collector and loved to hunt when he was still able to get around. He was a loveable teddy bear and was always a jokester.

James is survived by his son, Douglas A. Stone and his wife PerriLynne of Mexico; his daughter, Leslie Walton and her husband Kris of Rangeley; his granddaughter, Alicia Lojas and her husband Anthony of Stratton; and a great-granddaughter, Lydia Lojas. He was predeceased by his wife, Caroline; daughter, Denise Crawford of Rumford; and grandson, Stone Walton of Rangeley.

There will be a Celebration of Life, Saturday, December 2nd, from 1-4 pm at Moose Alley, 2809 Main Street, Rangeley where family and friends can gather to share fond memories.
