Obituary for Gerard "Jolly" Jolicoeur

JAY – Gerard A. “Jolly” Jolicoeur passed away peacefully on February 20, 2023, at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a short illness with his family by his side.

He was born on March 16, 1937, the son of Andrea and Alma (Fournier) Jolicoeur. He attended school in Jay and graduated from Jay Highschool with the Class of 1955. Gerard then went on to work at International Paper in Chisholm and later at Riley Mill in the Shipping Department.

Gerard enjoyed all spectator sports…his “New York Giants”, and especially his grandchildren’s games throughout the years. He was a champion candlepin bowler with many trophies to display. He was known for having an amazing sense of humor.

Gerard married the love of his life, Kathy Gagnon in 1990 and they enjoyed life together to the fullest, especially their day trips to coastal Maine and beyond. Gerard was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, who will be missed greatly.

Gerard is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy of 32 years, his sons; Jeff and his partner, Colleen Downer of Camden, John of Damariscotta, his daughters; Anne DeSanctis and Joe of Jay, Kelly Ryder and Ralph of Livermore. Grandchildren; Ryan Jolicoeur of Lewiston, Kera Gould and Billy of Camden, Kristy Gagne and Jonathan of Freeport, Erin Jolicoeur of Portland, Adam DeSanctis and Christie of Arlington, Virginia, Michael DeSanctis and Tracie of Daphne, Alabama, Rocky DeSanctis and Dakota of Coronado, CA, Jasmin Ryder and Layla Ryder of Livermore, 16 great grandchildren; and brother in-law, Arthur Landry. He was predeceased by his parents, Sisters; Annette Ouellette and Ray of Rumford and Dorothy Landry of Jay.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 4th at Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Jay with a reception to follow. Burial will take place in the spring at Stone’s Corner Cemetery in Jay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gerard’s honor to the Androscoggin Hospice House, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, ME 04210.
