Obituary for Gary Raymond

CHESTERVILLE – Gary Joseph Raymond died peacefully at his home on December 24th, 2022. He was 71 years old.

Gary was born on Jan 23, 1951 in Dover Foxcroft, Maine, the son of Wilford and Mary (Butler) Raymond. He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1969 and from there he attended college at the University of Southern Maine. While in college, Gary began working part-time for the USDA. After graduating from college in 1973, Gary took a full-time position with the USDA out of the Machias field office.

In 1977 he moved to Farmington, where he worked as the County Executive Director of the USDA farm service agency, until he retired on January 31st, 2022. All said, Gary spent 46 years with the USDA and truly enjoyed his work and particularly loved serving the farmers of Franklin County.

In his retirement Gary enjoyed working in his garden, visiting family, and doing projects around the house. He also loved taking trips with his wife Pauline, especially on their Spyder.

A favorite quote of Gary’s…seems to describe him best “If silence were golden, I’d be dead broke”.

Gary was loved by nearly everyone he met. He was the rock upon which the family anchored.

Gary is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Pauline, his sons Ryan, Jeremy, Harold and his daughter, Theresa. His 4 grandchildren, Cody, Ben, Carly and Hanna and 3 great grandkids. Gary also leaves behind his loving siblings, Bruce, Clarice, Brian, Larry & Joe.

In lieu of flowers, donation s in Gary’s name may be made to Maine Organic Farmers & Gardners @ MOFGA.org
