Obituary for Edgar Carr

Edgar Ervin Carr, Jr., 92, passed away on December 27, 2023. He was born on March 7, 1931, the only child of Hazel Mae Weed and Edgar Ervin Carr, Sr. in Millinocket, ME. After graduating from Stearns High School in 1948, he enlisted in the US Army, proudly serving in the Korean War. He then returned to Millinocket where he met and married Dawn Marie Gillespie. They shared 62 wonderful years together until her death in 2018.

Ed spent most of his life in his hometown and was employed by the Millinocket Post Office first as a letter carrier, then a clerk, and eventually he became Postmaster. He thoroughly enjoyed winter and from the early 1960’s Ed was an avid snowmobiler. His 1963 Polaris Bull Cat was a prized possession. Regardless of the season, Ed loved his time at Millinocket Lake - working, relaxing, watching the water go by, feeding the ducks or checking the ice fishermen. Ed was a meticulous woodworker. He created everything from kitchen cabinets to intricate Christmas ornaments. He traveled the state for many years participating in various Masonic bodies and served the Craft in many leadership positions. His favorite title was that of Brother. Not long ago he took up the art of wood carving and was a proud member of the Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers where he made some wonderful friends.

Ed is probably best known as a true gentleman with a great sense of humor, but most importantly, he was devoted to his family. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Dawn Carr.

Private family burial will be held in the spring at Millinocket Cemetery. To honor Ed, please give of your time to someone in need. Memories may be shared in his Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Caring for the family of Edgar Ervin Carr, Jr. is Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington.
