Obituary for Dorothy Hodgson (Roberts)

DIXFIELD - Dorothy Frances ‘Dot’ Hodgson, 91, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at her home in Dixfield. Dorothy was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on January 26, 1932. She was the daughter of the late John S. and Dorothy A. (Stone) Roberts. She was a 1950 graduate of Weymouth High School. On September 16, 1950 she was married to Henry M. Hodgson and together they celebrated 72 wonderful years of marriage until Henry’s passing in 2022.

She worked for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper for their family plumbing business and later at Clifton Rehab Nursing Center in Somerset, Massachusetts as a CNA and in the activities department.

Dot was a terrific mother and grandmother, and a great friend to many. Her passion was knitting, sewing, painting and crafts of all kinds. She had a collection of dolls and numerous doll houses that she created and detailed to perfection. Her workmanship was wonderful and her talent outstanding. The many winter sweaters, afghans, and Christmas reindeer she created will forever remind us of her talent and love for years to come.

Upon retiring, Dot and her husband, Hank, moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where they resided for 20+ years. They enjoyed walking the beach and the Florida sunshine. Dot and Hank were dedicated members of the First Baptist Church-Harbor Oaks where they made many friends and enjoyed an active social life. Family and friends from ‘up North’ were always welcomed in their Florida home during the winter months and they enjoyed returning to Maine during the summer where their children and grandchildren reside.

Survivors include her son, David Hodgson and wife, Joy, of Dixfield; daughter, Donna Cambra of Dixfield; and daughter Debra Aucoin and husband, Thomas, of Brewer; grandchildren, Milissa New, Caryn Burgess, Allen Hodgson and Erin Aucoin; great-grandchildren, Syeira, Logan, Leia and Ella New; and many nieces and nephews. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hodgson in 2022; a son Robert Hodgson in 2021; and the devastating loss of her granddaughter, Allyson Aucoin in 2022.

The family would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Allyson, Amanda, Ashley, Christy, Kim, Louann, Rebecca and Chaplin Rick of the Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice Team for their care, compassion and support provided to Dorothy and her family in her final days. Thank you all so much!

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Interment will take place in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared in Dorothy’s Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Honored to be caring for the family of Dorothy “Dot” Hodgson is Wiles Remembrance Center – Farmington.
