Obituary for Dorothy Cochran

WELD - Dorothy Jean Cochran, 83, of Weld, Maine, died peacefully at her home on January 19, 2024.

She was born to Charles and Florence (DeWitt) Adkins on July 30, 1940, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Weld where she attended school and graduated from Wilton Academy. Dorothy married Theodore Cochran on February 17, 1959, and the two of them decided they would make their home in Weld.

Dorothy was an artist. She painted landscapes of Weld and many other subjects in her oils, watercolors, and charcoals. In her painting she embodied the spirits of her subjects; many of whom she knew personally. She loved the beauty of the landscape and the people of her community. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and embroidery.

She will be forever in the hearts of those she left behind. Sadly missed by her children; Theodore “Bert” (Robin) Cochran, Sherry (Ed) Cochran, Michael Cochran, Kathleen (Tom) Freeman, and Stephanie (Rick) Bledsoe; her grandchildren; and her great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a half-brother, Duane Adkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; a sister, Sandra Barbour; a brother, Charles “Jum” Adkins; and half-sister, Sharlene Whitman.

Rest in peace, Mom. You are with our ancestors, Sun Woman.

Private family interment will take place in the Spring and a memorial is being planned by the family.
