Obituary for David Higginbotham

David Arnold Higginbotham,75, of Farmington Maine, passed away untimely, as the result of a vehicle accident in New Sharon, Maine, on February 19, 2024.

He was born in Fitchburg Massachusetts, June 10, 1948, to Marion Helen (Valcourt) Higginbotham and Arnold Russell Higginbotham.

David was preceded in death by both parents and brothers Wayne Higginbotham and Paul Higginbotham and is survived by brothers Russell Higginbotham and his wife Claire of Gardner, MA., Roland Higginbotham of Gulfport, MS., sister Joyce Rowell of Madison, ME., nephew Joel Higginbotham of Northfield, VT., nephew Christopher Higginbotham of Moultonborough, NH., niece Julie Higginbotham of Fitchburg, MA., niece Ruth Knight of Skowhegan, ME., niece Donna Keaton of Skowhegan, ME., niece Brenda Rowell of Skowhegan, ME., great nephew Justin Rowell of Haverhill, MA., great nephew Camden Higginbotham of Northfield, VT., great niece Savannah Higginbotham of Madison, ME., great nephew Jesiah Pomeroy of Anson, ME. and other extended family.

David had a long career as an offset press operator at multiple commercial printing companies. He had a lifelong hobby of photography and anything electronic, David loved his gadgets and was constantly experimenting with new ideas and projects. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his daily crosswords. He loved all things science and was continually absorbing new information; some would say he was a weather fanatic. He was very much looking forward to witnessing the 2nd solar eclipse of his lifetime coming up in April.

David loved fishing and being by the water, be it oceanside, lakefront or a babbling trout brook running through the woods. He very much enjoyed listening to country music whether it be live shows, radio or other formats. If we find ourselves listening to Hank Williams Sr. or Jr. know that David is most likely listening along with us, happily. He also enjoyed many years of bountiful gardening, especially those tomatoes.

David had a lifelong passion and tradition of poker games, especially with family and friends, be it penny ante, higher stakes or simply “playing for beans”. Each time we hear the “shuffling” of a deck of cards strong memories of David will arise.

He also leaves behind his loyal companion, Lucky, a cat, whom he cared for deeply and spoiled accordingly. She now resides in a loving forever home with relatives and other furry friends.

David truly believed Gods will was for us to help others, and as a testament to that, at the time of his departure from this world, he was out doing a favor for another. He would love if we all took the time to make a small donation, monetary or volunteering, at your local food shelf, homeless facility or simply perform a random act of kindness out of the goodness of your hearts. Sometimes the most valuable things in life cost nothing.

Services and locations will be announced at a later date when details are known.
