Obituary for Dana Cote

PORTLAND – Dana A. Cote, 57, of Farmington, formerly of Camden and Union, died on Tuesday Oct. 11 at Maine Medical Center, following a lengthy autoimmune illness that included lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

He was born on July 21, 1965, in Augusta, Maine the only son and “baby of the family” to Philip E. and Anita (Arsenault) Cote. He received his education in Farmington schools and was a 1983 graduate of Mt. Blue High School. He furthered his education at Central Maine Vocational School prior to becoming a ”Sugarloafer” where he enjoyed seven seasons of teaching his love of skiing to youngsters. He taught his daughter, Jordan, how to ski at Titcomb Mtn. in Farmington. For several years, he worked as a landscaper for NorPine and was a fishing guide for Big Island. Prior to becoming a self-employed insurance broker, he was employed as a manager for MBNA in Belfast.

You didn’t have to be in Dana’s company for very long before you realized that he was blessed with a terrific sense of humor. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing and fly fishing….and perfected the artform of tying flies. He shared the love of golf and of cooking with his late father, Phil.

He is loved by his daughter, Jordan “Jo” Cote, of Gorham; his mother, with whom he lived most recently because of his failing health, Anita A. Cote of Farmington; four devoted sisters and their husbands, Donna Gilbert (Doug) of Dixfield; Diana Leighton (Dale) of Union; Danita Gilbert (Jim) of Wilton and Debra Seeley (Danny) of Farmington; nieces and nephews: Peter Gilbert (Sarah); Derrick Gilbert (Michelle). Sara Quito (Pete), Deidre Mooney(Pat), Abbey Gilbert and Alex Gilbert; five great nieces and nephews, his beloved dog, Patches and a group of close friends.

Family and friends are invited to his memorial visitation on Thursday Oct. 20th from 5-7 PM at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday morning Oct. 21 at 11 AM from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Middle St., Farmington with Fr. Paul Dumais as celebrant. A reception will follow at the Parish Hall following Mass. All are Welcome. Private family committal services will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, Rumford.
