Obituary for Cheryl Augustine (Ney)

Industry,ME/Compton,RI

Cheryl Denise (Ney) Augustine, 64 of Little Compton, RI and Industry, ME passed away suddenly on Monday, December 18th, 2023 after a memorable weekend spent with family. She joined her husband of 35 years, James Michael Augustine. She is survived by her two daughters, Stacey M. Augustine (partner Uriah Donahue) of Industry, ME, and Samantha A. Snow (husband Travis Snow) of Little Compton, RI; two loving grandchildren, DeShane Augustine and Sadie Snow, and her sister, Lisa Peterson of Mechanicsburg, PA.

Cheryl was born on April 16th, 1959 in Newport, RI to Cheryl (Chamberlin) Ney and Roger Ney. In her earlier years, she enjoyed working at Almacs supermarket before studying to become a CNA. She worked for Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice before providing private care to many patients.

A lifelong Rhode Islander, Cheryl’s favorite hobby was collecting shells and crafting with them as well as painting her famous recycled lightbulb ornaments. She enjoyed attending and participating in craft fairs and learning new ideas. Her other hobbies included watching the Food Network, Discovery Channel, and survival and wilderness shows. Her favorite things were trips to the casino, visiting Alaska, and above all else; spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Cheryl was a pillar of strength and survived multiple health conditions in her lifetime, including a rare brain disorder which required two brain surgeries. She was a stage four colon cancer survivor by over 10 years. While battling these conditions, she remained a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother; never missing an activity or chance to support her family. While raising her daughters in Portsmouth, RI, she was instrumental in building the Island Park playground. She enjoyed volunteering at many school functions and extracurricular activities and dedicated much of her earlier life to helping others and community work.

Besides her husband James, Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters, Robin Pacheco and Leslie Paquette, and brother, John Ney. She was comforted knowing her loved ones were there to accept her at the time of her passing.

Family and friends are invited to attend Cheryl’s funeral service on Saturday, January 6th, 2024 at 1:00PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1956 Main Rd Tiverton, RI 02878 (holytrinitychurch.org).
