Obituary for Albert "Big Al" Sargent

Albert L. Sargent, 78, passed August 4, 2021 at Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta.

Hello, my name is Albert Lee Sargent, known to many as Big Al. I was born in Rumford, ME, on December 11, 1942, the 3rd son of Gerald V. and Dorothy L (Kilcollins) Sargent. I grew up in Mexico, Maine and lived there all my life on the same piece of property for 78 years.

At a very young age, I started to work mowing lawns, shoveling snow and delivery newspapers. I was always busy doing something. I graduated from Mexico High School in 1961 and continued to work at Diamond Match Co. until I enlisted in the Army in 1964 and was honorable discharged in 1966, but remained on active reserve duty for 4 more years. I then returned to Diamond Match Co. until 1971. In ’71 I had the opportunity to work with Paul’s delivery and buy the company and have owned and operated Al’s Delivery ever since. I was proud to be able to serve my community throughout the many generations of moving families. I operated my business even while I was in the hospital right to the end.

My hobbies have always been Beano and visiting family and friends. I always loved visiting the Boyd, Kilcollins, McKinnon and Whitten families. I also enjoyed my close friends and being in their company with good conversations throughout the years. I was a member to the American Legion, VFW, and Snowshoe club. I was a Golden Eagle member of the Eagles club and have enjoyed all the connections I have made along the way.

My only living brother Clayton N Sargent and my only sister-in-law Pauline still reside in Rumford, Me. They have been good to me throughout the years. My other brother Stanley V Sargent passed away in 2005 I have one special niece Kim Sargent Cocca whom I adore very much. I have many cousins and close friends throughout the state who I adore as much.
I was predeceased by my parents and my brother Stanley.

At my request, there will be no service. My family will place my urn at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
Cremation cared for by Wiles Remembrance Center: Adam-McFarlane Chapel 137 Farmington Falls Rd. Farmington. A kind word may be left in his Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com
