Obituary for Albert Heinzmann Jr.

Albert M. Heinzmann, Jr., 81, of Cromwell, loyal, dedicated, and beloved husband of Barbara (Freer) Heinzmann for fifty-eight years, passed away on May 19, 2023, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in Plainville, he was the son of the late Albert and Elsie (Dalke) Heinzmann.

Al lived in Cromwell for thirty-nine years and in Rangeley, ME for twenty-eight years. He was an active member and choir member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rangeley, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Berlin where he also served as treasurer and Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. After graduating UCONN with a master’s degree, he was a dedicated teacher at Oak Hill School in Hartford for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1996. In Rangeley, he served on the Board of Education and did a lot of volunteering. Al loved being outdoors especially snowmobiling and hunting, enjoyed working with tools creating many handmade carvings and was an avid UCONN Basketball fan.

Along with his wife, Al a hardworking, family-oriented father and grandfather is survived by two sons, Dirk Heinzmann of Cromwell and Seth Heinzmann of Mount Pleasant, SC; a daughter, Miriam (Mimi) Heinzmann of Phoenix, AZ; a sister Arline Conger of Higganum; a niece Cheryl Salce of Cromwell and four grandchildren, Ashley, Stephanie, Isabella, and Cole.

Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by a grandson, Keith Heinzmann; nephew Randy Conger and a brother-in-law Arthur Conger.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 2 pm from the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main Street, Rangeley, with Father Thomas Rock officiating followed by light refreshments in the Church Undercroft. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Rangeley. Memories can be shared in his Book of Memories at www.wilesrc.com. Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington is honored to assist with the services.
